Description Flooding occurs mainly in the Jamuna-Ganges catchments in the north west and north central regions together with flash floods in the north east region of Bangladesh. The project involves refining the existing regional models to adapt to the requirements of real time simulation. This includes water level at all boundary stations as well as a reduced number of rainfall stations. The continued development and refinement of these models are aimed at improving lead time and accuracy of forecast. The developed real time hydrodynamaic and rainfall-runoff model will be extended to the flashy rivers with catchments extending outside Bangladesh. The final model is expected to combine three detailed refined regional model, i.e. the NCRM, the NWRM and the NERM. One description of the forecasted floods will be flood extent maps based on MIKE11-GIS. It will thus be possible to provide indications to the probable flooding aat the thana level. The refined NCRM has already been used in flood forecasting and generation of flood extent maps during the flood of July 1995.
