Description The Lower Meghna Estuary model covers the Lower Meghna river from Chandpur Town to the Bay of Bengal. The eastern part is the coastline of the Karnafuli river and the western follows right bank of the Lower Meghna and the Tentulia river. The model area is subjected titdal action, salinity intrusion and morphological changes. The salinity intrusion in the Lower Meghna exceeds permissible limits for irrigation during dry season. At the peak of the dry season, in March and April, the salinity at the entrance of Shahabazpur channel varies from 10 to 15 ppt. while salinity in Hatia and Sandwip channel may exceed 20 ppt. FAP4 used this model to improve the understanding of the interacting processes dominatiang the water resources situation in the area and the conditions of the river, for investigating the impacts of various interventions, and for establishment of relevant design events for specific schemes under consideration.
