Description Mathematical Modelling study of the Surma Right Bank Project was conceived to understand the complex drainage system of the project area. The model considers the drainage system of the study area in a comprehensive way to simulate water level, discharge in the canal systems due to internal rainfall and inflow from external sources. The impact of any structural intervention on drainage, flood control and irrigation system can easily be evaluated from model results. Thus the model helps the planners and decision-makers to choose the right type and dimension of the structures for drainage improvement. Including most of the defined rivers/khals of the study area the mathematical model for the Surma Right Bank Project has been developed. The external boundaries for the project model is taken from the existing North East Regional Model. The objective of the study was to understand the complex behaviour of rivers and khals in and around the Surma Right Bank Project and help the feasibility study team to select suitable intervention measures for improving drainage condition and flood control of this area. The mathematical modelling study was designed to understand the drainage and flooding situation inside the project during pre monsoon, monsoon and post monsoon by comparing model results of existing situation and different improvement options. The model results will thus help the feasibility study team to select suitable type of structures and embankment to improve the flooding and drainage situation inside the project area. The definite output from the model are listed below:
