Surveys and Mathematical Modelling to Support the Design Work of Gorai River Restoration Project (GRRP)

Location

Ganges-Gorai offtake in Kushtia

Type of Project

To assist the Main Consultant and related study agencies i.e. EGIS-II, RRI as working in GRRP by collecting data and assessing the hydro-morphological impacts of different proposed engineering measures.

Period of Study

July 1998 - June 2001

Client

Bangladesh Water Development Board

Detail Narrative Description of Project:

Testing and devising alternative engineering measures and obtaining the most appropriate design of the proposed engineering measures to test the suitability of the proposed interventions for sustainable augmentation of dry season flow through Gorai river to protect the South-West Region from environmental degradation.

Detailed Narrative Description of the Services Provided:

Extensive systematic survey campaigns have been conducted to collect hydrometric, hydrologic and hydrographic data in different periods and supplied to the related study agencies working in this project. Mathematical morphological modelling of the Ganges-Gorai river has been developed in association with DHI, Denmark to support the feasibility consultant for full project preparation. Hydraulic and morphological impact of different engineering measures proposed by the Main Consultant have been assessed quantitatively for both short to medium to long term where applicable. Necessary boundary limits and conditions for constructions of the detailed Physical Models of RRI have also been assessed and supplied from the mathematical model.
