HYDEC Engineering Sdn. Bhd has commissioned Institute of Water Modelling  to carry out hydraulic modeling for the study of siltation of tidal control gates along the coast of Western Johor. The study area is characterized by a muddy coast and requires a detail hydraulic investigation to understand the physical processes involved in sediment deposition and to find probable solution.

The overall objective of the hydraulic modeling study is to develop baseline description on currents, waves, erosion and sedimentation pattern and to find potential scenarios for probable solution of sediment deposition problem.

MIKE21 modeling system, developed by Danish Hydraulic Institute will be applied to develop baseline description of coastal processes and to optimize the potential scenarios for probable solution.

For the different type of coastal processes, following suite of MIKE21 module will be applied:

a.                   Hydrodynamic Module (MIKE21-HD)– for tide and current

b.                  Nearshore wave Module (MIKE21-NSW)– for wave

c.                   Mud Transport Module (MIKE21-MT)– movement of sediment concentration

The output of the study would be:

i)          Base line condition of current and water level pattern

ii)                   Knowledge on sediment deposition dynamics

iii)        Identification of causes of problems and potential solutions

iv)        Report
