PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Biodiversity conservation for Sundarbans. The field
data collection includes water level, discharge, sediment concentration,
water quality testing, soil nutrient sampling and testing. It also includes tidal micro current measurement on the
forestland topographic survey, in-situ measurement of sedimentation on the
forestland, river morphology and hydrological study. The data and the model are intended to be useful for
identifying sources of pollution, establishing environmental indicators
and developing management option to mitigate harmful changes in the water
ecosystems of the area. A GIS based database has been developed for
archiving the collected field data in an organized way to be useful for
users of different disciplines to understand the complex water ecosystems
of Sunderbans. Equipment used : RTK GPS, Total Station, Optical Level, Echosounder, Salinometer, Oxygen meter, Turbidity meter, Submersible CTP, Currentmeter-(1) DNC-3M (2) Valeport, Sediment Sampler-(1) SK110 (2) Sediment pump (3) van Veen Grab Software used : Hydro, GP Survey, Sokkia com, ArcInfo, ArcView |
