An honours graduate in Geology from the University of Dhaka (1978) and obtained Master of Science in Geology from same University in 1980. Postgraduate training obtained from home and abroad on isotope hydrology, groundwater resource management, qualitative and quantitative exploration technology of groundwater resource. Besides 9 years IWM tenure, out of 30 years service, worked as Groundwater Specialist for long 22 years in Bangladesh Water Development Board and IWM, remaining time as Hydrogeologist. At present assigned to perform hydrogeological investigation and groundwater resource monitoring & management for different DPHE and ADB-DWASA projects including Singair well field design and establishment for 300MLD water supply to Dhaka city. Pioneer in geothermal resource exploration in Bangladesh and discovered a potential geothermal source in northwestern area of Bangladesh. Recently providing expert service in number of WB and ADB assisted project for study on climate change, industrial pollution and sustainable safe groundwater resource identification for water supply master plan for 4 metropolitan cities and 148 municipalities of the country.


Has also worked as national expert in Joint River Commission and represents Government of Bangladesh in bilateral study of Indo-Bangladesh Joint Scientific Study Team on “Ganges Water Sharing Treaty” for two years period (1997-99). Was also a Task Force Committee member under Ministry of Water Resources to review Ganges Water Treaty-1996. He worked as a national committee member for preparing a policy proposal on sustainable management of government owned groundwater irrigation project. Several times has participated in the Executive meeting held outside country for Water Resources Managers on Isotope applications in water resources management.

Possess long tenure of commendable experience on groundwater investigation, development and resource management including hydrogeological mapping and aquifer vulnerability mapping. Has also working experience on geophysical survey, production well monitoring system design & practice, application of environmental isotope technique in various studies to study and understand dynamic of hydrogeological system including arsenic contamination in groundwater. Possess experience for supervision of postgraduate research works. A research and pilot study recently successfully completed by him on Artificial Recharge to Dhaka aquifer by harvesting rooftop rainwater.


Attended a number of national and international seminars and conferences and also has numbers of publications in national and international scientific journals to his credit. For more than two decades credited as Life member of Bangladesh Geological Society and Bangladesh Association for Advancement of Science.
