A Joint Research Project on WATER RESOURCES VULNERABILITY AND SECURITY ASSESSMENTOF YARLUNG-TSANGPO-BRAHMAPUTRA TRANSBOUNDARY RIVER BASIN was Launched at Kunming, China.

A launching ceremony was arranged for the Joint Research Project on “Water Resources Vulnerability and Security Assessment of Yarlung-Tsangpo-Brahmaputra Transboundary River Basin” during 16-17 April 2017 at the Conference Room of Institute of International Rivers and Eco-Security (IIRES), Yunnan University, Kunming, China. This joint Research is mainly funded by National Science Foundation China (NSFC) and partly funded by ICIMOD. IIRES is the lead Institute of the Research and Prof. Daming He of IIRES is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the research.

Institute of Water Modelling (IWM) from Bangladesh, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (ITG) from India are partners from the Brahmaputra Basin countries. Prof. Dr. Monowar Hossain of IWM and Dr. Anamika Barua of IITG are Co-PI’s for the research project.

The 3 (three) years research project will focus on (i) temporal and spatial variation of transboundary water resources and the risk of flood, drought disaster under climate change scenarios; (ii) understand the driving mechanism and trend of transboundary water resources vulnerability and (iii) develop adaptive management models and security regulations strategies under climate change conditions. It is expected that the scientific value of the research would be immensely beneficial and valuable for Bangladesh and IWM.
