IWM Participated in the Seminar on Development Issues of Sylhet City.
Sylhet City Corporation organized a Seminar on various development issues of Sylhet on 5 August 2017 at the Rose View Hotel Auditorium. Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhit, Honorable Minister of Finance, Government of Bangladesh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ariful Haque Choudhury, Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Chaired the Seminar. Among others, former advisor of the caretaker government and renowned civil engineer and Vice-chancellor of University of Asia Pacific Prof. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury; Ambassador Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, former permanent representative of Bangladesh at the United Nations; Professor M Monowar Hossain, Executive Director, IWM; Mr. M Mahfuzur Rahman, Director General, BWDB and Mr. Md. Alamgir, VC of KUET were present as invited speakers. Academicians, government officers, people’s representatives, intellectuals from Sylhet and others parts of the country took part in the discussions.
Five development issues were presented at the seminar. Mr. Nur Aziz Rahman gave a brief on the present and future of solid waste management in Sylhet city. Mr. Khondker Anisur Rahman, Executive Director, Prism Bangladesh Foundation presented the state of medical waste management, Mr. S M Mahbubur Rahman, Director, WRP, IWM presented the new 50 MLD Sylhet water treatment Plant project and Sylhet city drainage improvement project. A presentation on the usefulness of digital system for monitoring and billing for the SCC was also presented.
