Academic Chronology

Md. Ifthakharul Alam earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Bangladesh, in July 2019. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Water Resource Development at the Institute of Water & Flood Management, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET).

Professional Track Record

Md. Ifthakharul Alam is a Civil Engineer specializing in water resources and environmental management who has been working as a Junior Engineer at the Institute of Water Modelling (IWM) since June 2023. He specializes in water resource management, environmental sustainability, and pollution control projects, leveraging skills in technical data processing, research development, and report writing.

At IWM, he has acquired significant expertise in key environmental and water initiatives. His core contributions include analyzing Bangladesh's water use efficiency for SDG indicator 6.4.1, conducting comparative studies, and supporting the strategic planning of sustainable water management practices. He is proficient in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which is demonstrated by his work on the Environmental and Social Framework Compliance Study for the Rohingya Response project, where he prepared critical documents, designed risk assessment matrices, and conducted extensive need assessment surveys involving KII, FGD, and public consultations.

Mr. Alam's role involves actively engaging in stakeholder coordination, including high-level meetings with organizations like SMEF, GIZ, BEZA, and DoE. He utilizes technical software such as ArcGIS and AERMOD View and has published several research papers related to water quality and urban development. Before IWM, he gained practical experience in construction supervision and safety compliance while working as an Assistant Engineer-Construction Bridge and as a Design (Assistant) Engineer, strengthening his foundational skills in infrastructure project execution.
