PROFILE DESCRIPTIONS
Academic Chronology
Sadman Hasan Rafi completed his Bachelor of Science (BS) in Geology from the University of Dhaka in 2023 and his Master of Science (MS) in Geology, with specialization in Environmental Geology and Geohazards, from the same institution in 2025.
Professional Track Record
Sadman Hasan Rafi has been serving as a Junior Hydrogeologist at the Institute of Water Modelling (IWM) under the Division of Irrigation, Groundwater & Wetland Management (IGW) since February 2026. Building on a background in environmental geology, geohazards, and geoinformatics, he contributes to hydrogeological surveys and water resources assessments that support sustainable groundwater management in Bangladesh, including aquifer safe-yield assessments, hydrogeological investigations for development planning, and geological characterization for regional strategic plans.
Before joining IWM, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Geoinformatics Research Lab, University of Dhaka (January 2024 – November 2025), under the supervision of Dr. Md. Bodruddoza Mia, investigating hydrological and ecological changes through remote sensing, with particular emphasis on riverine water quality parameters and drought assessment. In this role, he developed GIS and Google Earth Engine workflows for multitemporal analysis and conducted field surveys and in situ sampling to validate satellite observations. He applied statistical and geospatial models to extract key environmental indicators. His technical proficiency spans geoscience software (Rockworks), programming (Python, ArcPy for ArcGIS, JavaScript in Google Earth Engine), GIS and remote sensing software (ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Erdas Imagine, Google Earth Pro), and field instrumentation (Aqua TROLL 600 Multiparameter Sonde and water chemistry instruments).
