PROFILE DESCRIPTIONS

Academic Chronology

Mr. Shafique obtained his M.Sc. Engg. in Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics from the University of Applied Sciences, Stuttgart, Germany, in 2014. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Stamford University Bangladesh in 2007. Earlier in his academic career, he earned a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Barisal Polytechnic Institute in 1993.

Professional Track Record

Mr. Shafique has nearly 32 years of professional experience at the Institute of Water Modelling (IWM), having started his career in September 1994. He specializes in Oceanographic, Metocean, Hydrographic, Hydrometric, Geodetic, Cadastral, Route, and detailed land topographic surveys, multispectral analysis of high-resolution remote sensing data, and river dredging–related investigations. He has strong hands-on experience in hydrographic and topographic field data collection and processing using advanced equipment such as DGPS, digital echo sounders, ADCP, and current meters, supported by relevant processing software.

He has served as Survey Team Leader and Project Leader, leading multibeam bathymetric surveys, current measurements, sediment data collection, land acquisition surveys, drone-based mapping, and remote sensing analyses for major national projects under Bangladesh Railway, Infrastructure Investment Facilitation Company (IIFC), and Bangladesh Haor Development Board. His work supports engineering design, mathematical modelling, GIS integration, and evidence-based planning, with proven expertise in GIS-based map preparation and spatial analysis, including ArcView GIS.

He also served as Equipment Manager (In-Charge) for over 8 years, overseeing the inventory, maintenance, and modernization of survey equipment and accessories, while keeping pace with emerging survey technologies and software.

Training received and Given /Membership/Workshop/Seminar/Publication etc.

Mr. Shafique has received professional training on Integrated ArcView GIS 3.2 Applications (IWM, Dhaka, August 2003), Field Survey and Data Collection in support of Mathematical Modelling and Water Resources Management (IWM, Dhaka, June 2001), and Database Programming using Visual Basic 6 (Grameen Communications, Dhaka, August–October 2000). He is an Affiliate Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) (ID: 12274208) and a Member of the Alumni Association of Stuttgart HFT, Germany. He regularly provides hands-on training on advanced and traditional survey techniques under the CUET-BURP Professional Attachment Program, conducts industrial training programs for students of CUET, IUT, and the EWCE Department of MIST, and delivers on-the-job training to SDT Junior Engineers at IWM.

Publications:
He has authored peer-reviewed research papers on river bathymetry using space-borne remote sensing, reflecting strong integration of field surveys, remote sensing, and analytical modelling.
