Academic Chronology

Md. Shahidur Rahman Prodhan completed his graduation in Civil Engineering from Rajshahi Engineering College (now Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology) in 1974. He also completed post graduate diploma in Sanitary Engineering (equivalent to M.Sc, in Engineering) from the International Institute for Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (IHE) Delft, The Netherlands in 1986.

Professional Track Record

The professional has more than forty years of experience in urban water supply, sewerage, drainage, and sanitation planning, design, implementation, operation, and management in Bangladesh. His career includes long-term service in senior technical and managerial positions within Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA), Khulna Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (KWASA), and the Institute of Water Modelling (IWM).

Since January 2010, he has been working at the Institute of Water Modelling as an Urban Water Management Specialist, Team Leader, and Deputy Team Leader. In this role, he has been responsible for project planning, scheduling, and supervision of multidisciplinary teams involved in urban water supply, sewerage, and drainage projects. His responsibilities include assessment of existing infrastructure, estimation of present and future water demand, formulation of water supply strategies and master plans, planning and design of priority works, supervision of numerical modeling for surface water systems, preparation of cost estimates, technical specifications, and tender documents, and coordination with clients, stakeholders, and relevant institutions. He has been involved in major assignments for Dhaka WASA, Rajshahi WASA, Sylhet City Corporation, and other agencies, including water supply and sewerage master plans, treatment plant projects, pumping stations, and network rehabilitation works.

Prior to joining IWM, he served DWASA in various senior positions, including Managing Director (Additional Charge), Deputy Managing Director (Operations and Maintenance), Deputy Managing Director (Research, Planning and Development), and Project Director. He also served as Managing Director (in-charge) of Khulna WASA, where he was responsible for establishing the authority’s operational framework, planning and implementation of water supply and sanitation projects, budget preparation, and institutional management. Earlier in his career, he was involved in planning, design, and implementation of several major water supply and sewerage projects in Dhaka, including the 4^th Dhaka Water Supply Project and operation of the Pagla Sewage Treatment Plant. His professional experience demonstrates sustained involvement in technical, managerial, and policy-related aspects of urban water and sanitation services.
