Academic Chronology
Mr. Chaki graduated in Civil Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) in 2003. He obtained his M. Sc Degree in Civil Engineering (Environmental) from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) in 2017. He also completed Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Uttara University in 2008.
Professional Track Record
Mr. Tanmay Chaki is a distinguished water resources and urban infrastructure specialist with over two decades of professional experience at the Institute of Water Modelling (IWM), Bangladesh, where he has been working since February 2005 and currently serves as Director of the Water Supply, Sanitation and Urban Water Management Division. Over the course of his career, he has acquired extensive knowledge and experience in the planning, design, and implementation of urban water supply, sanitation, and drainage management projects, as well as in the use of sophisticated modelling tools/software’s for data processing, model development, result analysis, GIS mapping, report writing, and presentation. He has been deeply involved in numerous pre-feasibility/ feasibility studies, master plan development, technical assessments, design, and construction supervision projects funded by national agencies and international financial institutions including the World Bank, ADB, UNICEF, KfW, EDCF, and AFD.
In his current role as Director, Mr. Chaki provides strategic leadership for the division, overseeing the planning, execution, and management of complex projects. He possesses strong technical expertise in hydrological analysis and hydraulic modelling, with proficiency in WaterGEMS for water supply distribution network modelling, SewerGEMS for sewer network modelling, MIKE URBAN for drainage modelling, and MIKE 11 for surface water assessment. He has successfully led model development, calibration, and verification of water supply, sewer, and drainage systems in numerous projects, while also acquiring a thorough understanding of the physical processes in river systems and floodplains in Bangladesh. His sound knowledge of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) further strengthens his ability to integrate technical, environmental, and policy dimensions into sustainable solutions. Beyond project delivery, he plays a vital role in client engagement, business development, divisional budgeting, and financial planning.
Mr. Chaki’s career reflects a rare combination of technical mastery, strategic vision, and institutional development. He continues to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable urban water management, strengthening resilience in cities, and promoting smart water solutions that align with both national priorities and global best practices.
